If
you like these paintings and drawings
but either the price or the size of the image is too big, you might like
to have a cheaper and smaller version. Reproductions of the
paintings and drawings are available as Giclee Prints. These are made in small Limited
Editions of 295. Each print is
signed by the artist and uniquely numbered as 1 - 295 out of 295.
You can have a print made on either paper or canvas. Drawings are
best on paper. Paintings can be done on either. Below is a selection which
gives an idea of how prices work out. Prints on Canvas come stretched on a
wooden stretcher, no frame needed. Prints on paper will need to be framed. The edition is closed on
the sale of the 295th print. As the print edition is used up, the prints
become more rare and valuable, so the price increases. Each print is sold with a
Certificate Of Authenticity, issued by the publisher, carrying all details of
the Artist, Printer, Publisher and Copyright Holder, any restrictions or other
uses of the image, and all technical specifications to prove that the print is
up to Fine Art Trade Guild standards.
The Giclee process is relatively new and has evolved rapidly to the point where
the fineness of the image is so great that these prints have a value that is
more than just that of a reproduction. We should think of the print as an
object in itself, not just a copy of an original image. The printer and artist
work together to produce an object that has its own integrity as a work of art.
Sometimes the artist makes changes deliberately to enhance the print, making it
exist in its own right as a new generation of the original.
The production of a Giclée image is far from being an automatic process. Human
involvement and craftsmanship are
critical to the final quality of each print.
